Emma Lou Floyd Moore

Emma Lou Floyd Moore, 96, of West Plains, passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015.

She was born on March 1, 1919, to Vibert Lasley Floyd and Lillian Jean Russell Floyd in Thomasville, where she grew up and attended school. In 1938 she graduated from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, and taught elementary school in Thomasville and Van Buren. In 1942 she moved to St. Louis and worked at Emerson Electric. She was a professionally trained and accomplished vocalist, known for her beautiful soprano voice.

In 1944 she wed Thomas Norman Moore of Crystal Springs, Miss., to whom she was married for over 40 years. They resided in Missouri, Kansas, Mississippi and Texas. In 1971 she received a B.A. degree in elementary education from Mississippi College. After her husband’s death in 1984 she made her home in Crystal Springs and in West Plains.

Emma Lou’s greatest role was as a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by seven children: Ann Gibson and husband Del of West Plains; Nancy Beazley and husband Don of Crystal Springs; Mary Fagan and husband Billy of Borden Springs, Ala.; John Moore and wife Sherrie of Paige, Texas; Martha Rusteberg and husband Bill of Yoakum, Texas; Peter Moore of Ridgeland, Miss.; and Wendy Rector and husband Randy of Birch Tree. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Jacqueline White.

Graveside services will be held at County Line Cemetery in Copiah County, Miss., at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1. Stringer Funeral Home of Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.
