Jeffery Doyle Owens, 54, died unexpectedly at home in rural Theodosia, Mo., in the early morning on Monday, May 16, 2016 from congestive heart failure. He was born June 2, 1961 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Doyle Fred and Kathryn (Willbanks) Owens.

Jeff is survived by a wife, Celia, his mother, Kathryn, and two brothers, Tim and Nick Owens. He also has two sons and one daughter-in-law, Herman Owens, and Zach and Bekah Owens, and one granddaughter, Kaylin Owens.

Jeff served six years in the U.S. Navy as a young man, and then after being honorably discharged, he moved his family to Wyoming to raise his sons in an environment close to nature. There he obtained a Master of Science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Wyoming. Later he moved the family to Missouri, and he and his wife became school teachers. He taught high school science for 19 years in West Plains, Mo.

Jeff was a man who loved his family, and loved the outdoors, and he was always eager to help the people he loved. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest. He will be greatly missed by all.

Services will be held at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, Mo. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with full military honors. Following the service, the family welcomes everyone to join them at Antlers to celebrate Jeff’s life.
