Charles Henry Callaway

Charles Henry Callaway was born on January 3, 1931 at Chrisstian Hogan Hospital in West Plains, Missouri to Charles J. Callaway and Josephine Harms Callaway.

He married Lucille Phipps in 1951 in Eminence, Missouri. From that marriage came three children, Elizabeth Ann Callaway Garcia, Charles Phillip Callaway, and John Boone Callaway. John was killed in a motorcycle accident at the age of 17. They later divorced.

In the early 70’s he married Marjorie McConnell. She passed away inn 1989. They gave her six months to live, so he retired from the USGS to stay home and take care of her. She lived another eleven years. During this time, he suffered a heart attack, due to the stress of the situation.

He then married MayDean Parker on October 9, 1991 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He is survived by his wife, MayDean Parker Callaway of the home, West Plains, Missouri; two children, Elizabeth Ann Callaway Garcia and Charles Phillip Callaway; silbings, Marie Callaway Schwegman, Charlotte Callaway Sukow, and Hazel Callaway Blakely.

He attended Langston School and his last year he went to Greenwood School where he graduated 8th grade. He graduated from West Plains High School with the class of 1949 with honors. He then attended Rolla School of Mines (Missouri S&T now) and graduated from there in 1953. He began working for the United States Geological Survey in Rolla, Missouri after graduating. He transferred to the United States Geological Survey in Coloradio, working primarily in the Denver area, but also doing jobs across the entire United States. He retired from the USGS in the mid 1980’s to help take care of his ill wife, Marjorie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife; one son, John Boone Callaway;

He was a member of the United Methodist Church from a young boy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m at Carter Funeral Home, West Plains.

Graveside services for Charles will be Sunday, February 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc., West Plains.
