Ozark Spring Daughters to hold awards luncheon May 4

Posted

The Ozark Spring, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold an awards luncheon at noon May 4 at the American Legion Hall, 1401 Bill Virdon Blvd. in West Plains. In addition to the presentation of the Chapter Awards, the group will recognize member Vivian Sue Brake, who died on Jan. 29, remembering her for her service and commitment to DAR.

Brakes’ love of genealogy and DAR led her to join the local Ozark Spring, NSDAR in 1980, where she served in various officer roles. She also served at the state level with the Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution as a committee chair and state registrar during the Lemira Parks administration. In addition to Brake’s Ozark Spring chapter membership, she maintained a DAR associate membership with the Marshall Chapter and joined the National Society Daughters of 1812 Brigadier General Thomas A. Smith Chapter.

Her passion for research to find and prove Revolutionary War patriots for membership with the Sons of the American Revolution was passed along to many others to include her husband Dale, sons, grandsons and cousins. As a result of her dedicated service and commitment to the application approval process of at least five SAR members, the Ozark Mountain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution awarded her the Martha Washington medal.

The chapter’s executive board will serve as hostesses for the luncheon
