The Zizzer Pride Band has a new leader.
Officials with the West Plains R-7 School District announce Zane Johnson has been selected as the new director of bands. Johnson is currently the band director at Mtn. View-Birch Tree School District.
As current band director Rocky Long prepares to retire at the close of the school year, he leaves behind a legacy of excellence. Long will begin a new chapter, spearheading a new band program at Missouri State University-West Plains after serving as the Zizzer band director since 2004.
"My goal is to honor the legacy and achievements of the Zizzer band program while making the transition as smooth as possible," said Johnson.
Johnson is a 2017 graduate of West Plains High School. He earned a Bachelor of Music from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. He is also pursuing a Master's in Education.
Johnson will begin the position on July 1.
