$10,000 STEM GRANT

RICHARDS SCHOOL was award a $10,000 STEM Grant for Support and Outreach through Missouri University of Science & Technology in Rolla and the 10 county SOAR (Southern Ozarks Area Redevelopment) region. The funds will be used to purchase Chromebooks and a charging cart to be used in the third and fourth grade math and science classrooms, said Curriculum Director Susan Rogers. In addition, the school will be able to expand the use of STEMscopes science online curriculum to the third and fourth grade, she added. The purpose of the grant is to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics instruction to enhance educational opportunities for students. It is hoped it will create learning opportunities to help students understand STEM education is relevant in their lives and see the potential for future careers, said Rogers. The overarching goal of the grant program is to increase the ability of the region to attract new jobs and investment by improving the educational aptitude and achievement of students, she explained.
