118-year-old church demolished

BUILT IN 1902, according to the cornerstone, the little white church on South Hill St. in West Plains passed into the pages of history Thursday when it was demolished due to being deemed irreparable. Originally serving as a Catholic Church, then a Baptist Church, the building's most recent owner, Mike Newton, had plans to renovate the building for use as an event space for the community. However, upon inspection, contractors found the building to be beyond salvation. “It is a special building that I have enjoyed seeing every morning for 16 years," said longtime neighbor of the church Terisa Martz. "Many people were saved in many ways there, and it will be missed.”
