A CROWD GATHERS to watch screaming carnivalgoers on the Moby Dick ride Thursday evening at the Heart of the Ozarks Fairgrounds. The carnival, which runs through tonight, prompted critical phone calls to fair officials regarding a lack of publicity, according to fairgrounds manager Brent Pitcock. “The decision to have a carnival was a last-minute decision,” Pitcock explained. “The company contacted us to rent the fairgrounds as they traveled through the area, and we put the word out as soon as we were able.” The carnival rides are provided by PBJ Happee Days Shows of Marion, Ark. Several area residents also expressed concerns about the event, given that the annual fair — which was initially scheduled for June — was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The fairgrounds will hold a demolition derby tonight at 7 p.m. Admission for adults is $10; for children 6 through 12, $5, and children 5 and under are admitted free.
