The Ozarks Healthcare Foundation received a $2,500 sponsorship boost from BÜRO for its recent Blue Jean Ball held at Silver Springs Ranch in West Plains. The event, held Oct. 5, is an annual fundraiser for the Ozarks Healthcare Foundation, with proceeds going toward healthcare scholarships for locals pursuing careers in education, as well as efforts to improve patient care. "We are thrilled to have BÜRO as one of our sponsors for this year's Blue Jean Ball," said OZH Vice President of Development Josh Reeves. "Their support exemplifies the community spirit that drives this event, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication to improving healthcare in our region." BÜRO gives $2,500 to Blue Jean Ball
Ozark Marketing was a $1,000 sponsor of the “How to Enchant a Bookshop” dinner theater event held as a fundraiser for the 37th Judicial CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). The Sept. 7 event raised $21,500 for the organization, which advocates for and supports abused and neglected children in the 37th Judicial Circuit, comprised of Howell, Shannon and Oregon counties. The project has been in progress with some preliminary work already completed, including moving power lines and fresh pavement. Mayor Mike Topliff and Parson thanked all involved during the Oct. 3 groundbreaking ceremony, including those agencies that helped secure grants and other funding for the large undertaking. The city has budgeted $7.8 million for the project, supplemented by $2.5 million in Community Development Block Grant money and other funds through the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the Delta Regional Authority. Capital Paving and Construction and Crawford, Murphy & Tilly engineering services are working on the project. Groundbreaking ceremony held for railroad overpass project
Maple trees, such as this picturesque specimen on South Curry Street in West Plains, are among the first to show signs of fall, particularly red maples, native to the Ozarks, which are beginning to hint at the bright red coloring their leaves will soon bear. Other trees showing signs of fall are buckeyes, black walnuts, sassafras, sumac and Virginia creeper.

Rep. David Evans, 154th District, left, was recently recognized by Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Russell, right, with gratitude for his service as a legislator in protecting and improving the judicial system in Missouri. Prior to being elected to the House, Evans was a judge for 27 years in the 37th Judicial Circuit. He will retire from his office at the end of the year.

Many poles were broken during Hurricane Helene's impact on Sept. 26 and 27 in the southeastern U.S. Two Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative linemen, who traveled to Georgia in the storm's aftermath, work to remove old materials from the ground and the broken poles. The ground in Georgia is much sandier than the dirt and rocks they are used to in Missouri, co-op officials noted.
HOEC sends linemen to Georgia to aid in hurricane recovery efforts
Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative sent seven linemen to assist members in Georgia after Hurricane Helene made landfall, joining about 200 Missouri Cooperative lineworkers from across the state in answering the call help fellow cooperatives in need. more
