The Ozarks Healthcare Foundation has received $7,500 from West Plains Bank and Trust Company in sponsorship of the annual Blue Jean Ball fundraiser for the foundation. Set for Saturday at Silver Springs Ranch, this year’s event promises to be a fun-filled evening, with all proceeds supporting local patients and healthcare initiatives, said organizers. more

Friday’s West Plains High School pep rally held as part of Homecoming festivities was described by West Plains R-7 Communications Director Lana Snodgras as “a blast.” With no parade held due to rain, students kicked off Homecoming with a Hot Stuff vs. Teacher volleyball showdown, a special proclamation from West Plains Mayor Mike Toplliff and the announcement of the grand marshal, Activities Director Ashley Cooley. They also celebrated the sports teams and clubs and introduced the Homecoming Court. “The Zizzer Pride Band performed the fight song, and the class tug of war was so much fun,” Snodgras concluded. “Congrats to the junior class spirit stick winners.” Turn to Pages A6 and A7 of today's Gazette to see the sponsors supporting this year's Homecoming.

Howell Valley School has received a generous grant of $2,621 from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, in collaboration with the Louis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation and Commerce Trust. Mapping project underway to improve accuracy for 911 calls
Missouri 911 in Wright, Howell and Ozark counties has launched a tri-countywide geographic information system remediation project to update the 911 mapping to improve emergency services across the counties and the state of Missouri, officials announce. The project is funded by grants using federal American Rescue Plan Act funds. more
"How to Enchant a Bookshop" by Todd Wallinger was performed during the 37th Judicial CASA dinner theater fundraiser held Sept. 7 at Rubydoo's Vintage Events, directed by Rebecca Peterson of the STARS Foundation and acted out by members of the STARS Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Cabool that involves and instructs youth and adults in the fine arts while encouraging participants to serve their communities. Supporters of the 37th Judicial CASA were treated to dinner and a show for a good cause the evening of Sept. 7 with the child advocacy organization’s yearly fundraiser. The production this year was "How to Enchant a Bookshop" by Todd Wallinger, performed by members of the STAR Foundation and directed by Rebecca Peterson. more

Burton Creek Rural Clinic recently celebrated the completion of renovations of waiting areas and the addition of offices and expanded lab space. All are under one roof at 805 N. Kentucky Ave. The clinic offers services including family practice, obstetrics, 3D and 4D ultrasounds, cosmetic procedures and mental healthcare. There are eight doctors on staff as well as two family nurse practitioners, a certified physician's assistant and two licensed clinical social workers who provide psychological therapy. The walk-in clinic is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays, or call 417-256-2111 to make an appointment. A pair from West Plains and three children in their vehicle were involved in a fatal crash in rainy weather at 5:11 p.m. Sunday in rural Sharp County, Ark., the Arkansas State Police reported. more
