In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Cabool Mayor Danny Cannon, right, recently stopped by the Christos House Resale Shop in West Plains to sign a proclamation in support of domestic abuse awareness on behalf of the city of Cabool. Texas County is part of the Christos House service area, which also includes Howell, Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Oregon, Shannon and Carter counties. Besides awareness and prevention, the agency partners with the communities it serves to connect survivors with services and collects data showing the need and success of those services. With Cannon is Christos House Outreach Advocate Brenda Lewis.

Mabel Schrippe, a 16-year-old junior at West Plains High School, job-shadowed Managing Editor Abby Hess, a family friend, Thursday at the West Plains Daily Quill. Schrippe was able to delve into Hess’ work life, and understand the inner workings at the Quill. She said she was immediately intrigued by the amount of organization between Hess and her coworkers. Schrippe decided to job-shadow an editor because formatting reports plays a key role in the career she intends to pursue. She plans to go to college for biochemistry and eventually become a forensic pathologist in a big city. While this dream is far from being accomplished, Schrippe, shown here writing her bio, said she is very excited for the opportunities being presented to her at the present time.

West Plains city officials and Eclipse West Plains Task Force members met on the six-month anniversary of the total solar eclipse, to bury a time capsule commemorating the April 8 event, at the Ozark Heritage Welcome Center. The capsule will be opened on the 100 the anniversary of the eclipse. Contained within it is a T-shirt and other merchandise that offered during the weekend-long local festival, an events schedule, photos and a thumb drive loaded with additional photos and materials. A letter to future residents signed by Mayor Mike Topliff described West Plains as it was on April 8, 2024, to provide a snapshot of West Plains and concluded the "energy and excitement" will remain for a long time. Topliff also thanked task force members for their tireless efforts in making the festival a success. A flowering dogwood tree, the state tree of Missouri, was also planted to celebrate the event. Home, Ark., added to its support of the annual Ozarks Healthcare Foundation fundraiser held Oct. 5 by donating a 14 karat gold bracelet by Vahan, adorned with 14 carat diamonds to the auction called by Billy Sexton. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the bracelet was $2,290. "We are incredibly thankful to have Carter's Jewel Chest on board for our Blue Jean Ball," said OZH Vice President of Development Josh Reeves. "Their generosity will help us make a lasting impact in healthcare for the region."
