Pizza Hut demolished

On Friday, heavy equipment operators tore down the building that once housed Pizza Hut on Porter Wagoner Boulevard in West Plains. Yum! Brands, owner of Pizza Hut, closed 300 “significantly underperforming” restaurants across the U.S. in 2020. The West Plains location closed in August, as many businesses were reeling from the economic fallout caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ozarks Healthcare owns the property, and the demolition is part of preparation for ongoing medical system expansion, a spokeswoman confirmed, though details were not yet available. The $70 million Ozarks Healthcare expansion project kicked off in June 2019 with a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of a centrally located office complex to join the main hospital building with the Shaw Building for a unified campus, as well as a Women’s Center, which opened last month. The office complex is expected to be completed midway through this year.
