WEST PLAINS TOURISM COORDINATOR

Melissa Amyx Smith has been hired as Tourism Coordinator for the city of West Plains, officials announced Friday. Her duties include the operation and management of the Ozark Heritage Welcome Center and staff, budgeting and finances, administration of the community grant program, social media and promotion of area events, attractions and services. Smith began her career with Missouri State University-West Plains as a graphic designer/public relations writer. Later in her career she opened At Home Market and after time in retail sales, she was the owner and designer of Houndstooth & Polka Dots, designing and selling merchandise all over the country. Most recently, she worked in the Marketing and Public Relations Department for Ozarks Medical Center, winning awards for various graphic design projects for the hospital. Smith is a native of West Plains with a degree from Drury University. She is a 1986 graduate of West Plains High School and has three children, Shelby, Karsyn and Sawyer.
