KARLA ESLINGER, left, a Republican from Wasola running for 33rd District state senator, met with locals Thursday night at Ostermeier Brewing Company on south U.S. 63 in West Plains, including Myles Smith, right. The 33rd District seat is held by Republican Sen. Mike Cunningham of Rogersville, serving his final term allowed by state law. Eslinger is challenged by Robert Ross of Yukon, also a Republican, who has served as 142nd District Representative for the past eight years. She is finishing a term as 155th District Representative, elected in November 2018. She was formerly a superintendent for Ava and West Plains school districts and served as assistant commissioner of the Missouri Department of Education and a senior education analyst for Applied Engineering Management.
