The memorial service for Susan ‘Sue’ Ann Ackerson, 68, of Aberdeen, S.D., will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., with Pastor Mike Jacobson and Pastor Liz Dieseth Pearl officiating. Burial will be at Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, ND, at a later date. Susan died Sunday, Sept. 16, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Susan Ann Cockerill was born March 28, 1950, to Robert and Marjorie (Malstrom) Cockerill in Fargo, N.D. She grew up on a farm and graduated from rural Davenport High School in 1968. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Valley City University in 1972. Susan was married to Richard Ackerson in 1972, and to this union two children were born, John and Kimberly.
Susan was a well-respected teacher for over 25 years, mostly in Leola, S.D. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, the disease forced early retirement in 1999. MS forced Susan to reside at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen from 2001 until her passing.
Susan was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Although she was unable to attend church, her faith was strong and helped her during tough times. She enjoyed listening to music, watching movies and reading. Susan loved visiting with family and friends. Her greatest joys were her three grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Susan’s life are her children: John (Amy) Ackerson, West Plains, Mo., and Kimberly Bauer, Aberdeen, S.D.; her grandchildren: Jacob Ackerson, Evan Ackerson, and Drew Ann-Lorain Bauer; her sister: Cheri Best, Clitherall, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Susan in death are parents: Robert and Marjorie Cockerill; her brothers: Robert ‘Bobby’ Cockerill, Jr. and Ricky Cockerill, and her nephews Lyle Cockerill and Wray Cockerill.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made in Susan’s memory.
