Three former West Plains High School Lady Zizzer basketball players currently play college basketball: Cass Johnson, a senior at College of the Ozarks (CofO) in Point Lookout; Payton Richards, a sophomore at Drury University in Springfield; and Elle Williams, a sophomore at Crowder College in Neosho.
All three of the former Lady Zizzers received all-conference honors following the 2018-19 regular season.
Johnson received first-team Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I) and first team All-Region honors.
Johnson averaged 19 points per game during her senior campign and set a CofO record for most made 3-pointers (401) in a career. She shot 41 percent from 3-point range in her career.
Johnson and the CofO Lady Bobcats won the 2019 A.I.I womens basketball championship.
Richards received second-team Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) honors.
Richards averaged 10.8 points per game while starting 27 of 28 games for the nation’s No. 1 ranked NJCAA Division II team.
She also averaged four assists, two steals and two rebounds per game.
Richards and the Drury Lady Panthers are undefeated with a 28-0 record and recently won the regular season GLVC championship and play inn the conference tournament’s quarterfinals tonight.
Williams received second-team All-Region 16 honors.
Williams averaged 13.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
Williams and the Crowder College Lady Roughriders finished the 2018-19 season with a 13-19 record.
Crowder College is a two-year community college and Williams has yet to decide if she will continue her collegiate career next year.
Johnson, Richards and Williams played two seasons together as Lady Zizzers.
They went a combined 44-11 overall and won back-to-back Ozark Conference titles.
“It’s nice to see the girls make it to the next level and continue being successful,” said Lady Zizzers Head Coach Scott Womack. “They are carrying on the Lady Zizzer tradition and representing West Plains very well.”
