The Baxter County, Ark., Sheriff's Office is investigating a death on Moccasin Creek on the Baxter/Izard county line, said Sheriff John Montgomery in a statement emailed to media at about 4 p.m. Thursday.
Shortly after a.m. Thursday, he said, a motorist driving south on Arkansas Highway 5 saw a body floating in Moccasin Creek, which is about 4 1/2 miles northwest of Calico Rock and 9 1/2 miles southeast of Norfork.
Deputies and other responders arrived on scene and found the nude, decomposing body of a man floating in the creek, said Montgomery, adding that deputies canvassed the residences in the area, but nobody who was contacted had any information as to who the decedent might be. An officer with the Mtn. Home Police Department flew a drone over the general area to see if any other evidence could be seen, but nothing was found, the sheriff said.
The body was removed by the Baxter County Coroner's Office and will be sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner's Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine manner and cause of death and to assist in attempting to identify the decedent, said Montgomery.
