To the editor:
In a time when truth is often obscured and justice can seem distant, it is more important than ever to remember what defines us as a people and a nation: moral integrity, ethical accountability and unwavering adherence to foundational principles rooted in God’s word and the Constitution.
Credibility is not built upon power, position or persuasion, it is built upon consistent truth, humility and the courage to do what is right, even when nobody's watching. Character is forged not in comfort, but in trials, through our willingness to stand firm for what is right when it would be easier to remain silent.
There are those who suffer in silence under systems that forget the very ideals they were created to uphold. When courts, officials or legal processes no longer reflect fairness, impartiality or the presumption of innocence, we must ask: Where is the standard of justice that God ordains and our Constitutional guarantees?
We are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights — life, liberty and the pursuit of truth. These rights are not given by man and they cannot be justly taken away by man-made institutions that operate without individual, personal responsibility and accountability.
The foundation of our republic rests on the rule of law, not the rule over individuals. It rests on foundational principles, due process, transparency and equal protection; not manipulation, secrecy or discrimination. When these foundational principles are undermined, it is not only the individual who suffers, but the soul of our country itself.
Let this be a reminder to those who hold power and those who suffer under it that justice must be rooted in truth, not convenience; in righteousness, not unwarrantable control. That God’s word reminds us to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly, and any system that claims legitimacy must do the same.
This is not just a plea for one person or one case. It is a call to return to the foundational truths that make justice possible: moral courage, ethical leadership and reverence for the God-given rights of every man, woman and child.
