Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1828 of West Plains will host a remembrance ceremony for Operation Desert Storm at 1 p.m. Friday.
The ceremony will take place at the People's Park Veterans Memorial, at the corner of Broadway and Porter Wagoner Boulevard in West Plains.
It commemorates the 34th anniversary of the end of the conflict, which began with U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army air strikes on Jan. 16, 1991, that led to a ground war in Kuwait and Iraq on Feb. 24, 1991, concluding four days later. There were 96 U.S. service members killed in action, including 10 Missourians whose names will be read during the ceremony.
