Posted

A 63-year-old woman from Salem, Dent County, has drowned in a kayaking accident on the Current River, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Msgt. B.D. Foster with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported the incident happened at 12:45 p.m. Sunday on the Current River below Cave Spring in Shannon County. The woman’s kayak was reportedly pushed into a downed tree by the current, where it overturned, and she was swept under the tree.

She was not using a floatation device at the time of the accident, her body was recovered by people floating the river, Foster reported.

Shannon County Coroner Allen Ford pronounced the woman dead at 2:27 p.m.

Foster was assisted at the scene by the National Park Service.

The patrol no longer identifies drowning victims in its public reports, citing the possibility the information could be used to perpetrate scams.
