Doris Skaggs

Doris Freda Skaggs, was born in Clark County, Ill., on Sept. 26, 1934, to Rondel Bartlett and Lucy (Pendleton) Bartlett. Doris passed from this life Monday, July 22, 2019, at Willow West Apartments, at the age of 84.

Doris graduated from Willow Springs High School and on Sept. 13, 1952, married Thomas E. Skaggs, in the Bartlett home in Texas County, Mo.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Skaggs; son, Neil Skaggs  (Barbara) Normal, Ill.; daughters, Jo Hendrix, Connie Beall (Mackie) all of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Wilma Kingery, Neoga, Ill.; grandchildren, Caroline Sallee (Jim) Oakland, Calif., Becky Mallone (Brendan) San Diego, Calif., Meredith Phillips (Michael) Wyoming, Mich., Lindsey Skaggs, Bloomington, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.      

Doris was an active member of Nagle Christian Church, teaching Sunday School, leading Vacation Bible School, serving at church camp and always supporting the body of Christ. She was a decades-long member of the Pine Creek Home Extension Club. She also was involved with Lydia’s Sisters and other Christian associations.

She was a professional wedding cake decorator, accomplished seamstress and loved to cook, bake and entertain. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2019, at the First Christian Church in Willow Springs, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Yarber Mortuary chapel in Willow Springs. Interment will be in the Nagle Cemetery.
