Dear Readers,
As everyone is aware, the first presidential debate was held this week. I wish I could say that I came away with answers, but honestly, I only came away with more questions and concerns. I suppose I am looking for a "light bulb" moment where everything snaps into focus and the "right" path becomes perfectly clear. Perhaps that will never happen, maybe it's not meant to. Maybe the best we can do is take our best guess with the tools we have and start down the path. Both paths are dark, but hopefully, we choose the one that eventually leads to the light.
I don't want to stir the pot or make anyone mad, even though I am pretty good at doing both of those things. Here's my take. As I watched the debate, the only consistent thought I had was, "This is it? These are our choices? These two men represent our country's best and brightest?" I feel like once again I am being asked to choose between the lesser of two evils.
To be honest, I'm tired of it. I'm tired of voting against someone instead of voting for someone. Choosing the candidate that "isn't quite as bad" has been the majority of my experience in 20 years as a voter in presidential elections. Am I wrong? How do you all feel about the debate and the current state of politics?
It's frustrating to feel like we're constantly being put in this position. We deserve leaders who inspire us, who we can wholeheartedly support, and who make us feel optimistic about the future. Instead, we often find ourselves settling, hoping that the choice we make is the one that will do the least damage.
Maybe it's time for a change. Maybe it's time to demand more from our political system and from those who seek to lead us. Let's have conversations, share our thoughts, and work towards a future where we can proudly cast our votes for candidates who truly represent our values and aspirations.
So, what do you think? Did the debate leave you feeling as uncertain as I am? Let's talk about it.
