Howell County contracts with company for tornado cleanup

Howell County Presiding Commissioner Ralph Riggs announced Friday the county has partnered with CTC Disaster Response, a nationwide disaster response company, to manage the cleanup of tornado debris along county roads.

Starting Thursday, five crews equipped with large debris trucks began working along the storm path in southern Howell County. Debris will be transported to a collection site in Pomona.

Residents are cautioned that roads may be temporarily closed as crews load and remove debris, and commissioners ask for patience and understanding. Cleanup is estimated to take about 60 days.

Commissioners ask all to avoid areas where cleanup crews are working, follow road closure signs and detours, and keep children and pets away from debris piles and cleanup equipment.

Volunteers are encouraged to come when they can and work as long as they would like. The primary goal for the day is painting, said organizers, noting there are other jobs for those who prefer not to paint. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.
