Lady Zizzers are Ozark Conference co-champs

The West Plains High School Lady Zizzers basketball team secured a piece of the Ozark Conference championship Tuesday night when they traveled to Lebanon to take on the Yellow Jackets and emerged with a 52-47 victory.

“We went out and played the game we needed to,” said Zizzers Head Coach Scott Womack. “We took care of the ball, and really stepped up on defense.

The junior varsity Zizzers got the ball rolling with a 49-34 win. JV finished a great season with a 14-5 record and 9-1 in conference play.

Madi Hughtson was the leading scorer with 18 points, Lily Wiedemann had 14, Hannah Judd had 10, Mary Claire Gohn had 3, Emma Worsham had 2, and Tyra Henry finished the  night with 1 point.

In the varsity contest, it was a fight all the way to the final buzzer.

Ashton “Double-Double” Judd added another one to her stat book with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Allyssa Joyner put up a double-double of her own with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kaylea Dixon had 8, Zoey Williams and Georgia Osborn each had 4.

This marks this fifth Ozark Conference in the last 10 years for the West Plains Lady Zizzers.

The Lady Zizzers now move on to districts where they have a first round bye. Tuesday, they will face the winner of Saturday’s Branson vs. Marshfield game.
