In recognition of September as Suicide Prevention Month, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will have a table set up beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Avenue Theatre, 307 Washington Ave. in West Plains, to offer free educational materials about suicide prevention to the public.
The organization’s presence is in partnership with the 3 p.m. stage production of “The Game,” a play dedicated to suicide awareness. It is described by Arts on the Avenue Board Vice President Joy Pace as a portrayal of “an ancient contest in which the allegorical characters of ‘Life’ and ‘Death’ compete for the living. The subjects at the moment are ‘Youth’ and ‘The Girl,’ who have met at the edge of a precipice where they've separately come to end their lives because of unhappiness with former loves. However Life wins this game and proves that it is worth choosing the road of life.”
The play is rated PG-13, meaning parental guidance is recommended for youths younger than 13. Additional performance times are 7 p.m. Sept. 20 and 21. Tickets are $12 each and may be purchased online at theavenuetheatre.org.
