The suspect in a homicide that happened in Bull Shoals, Marion County Arkansas, was found dead of an apparent suicide near Lake Norfork hours after a fatal shooting, authorities reported on April 21.

Brooks D. Due, 49, Briarcliff, had been the subject of a manhunt and Baxter County, Ark., law enforcement had been searching for Due near his home and the surrounding area.

It was presumed the suspect was driving a black 2013 Dodge Avenger according to a news release issued April by Marion County, Ark., Sheriff Gregg Alexander, informing the public to be on the lookout for Due, with the caution that he was likely armed and dangerous.

Montgomery let the media know late that afternoon that Due’s vehicle had been spotted from an Arkansas State Police helicopter at about 2:28 p.m. on Shoal Creek Trail.

Officers and a canine tracking team from the Arkansas Division of Correction, North Central Unit, searched the area and Due’s body was found an hour later about 75 yards off the road from Shoal Creek Trail.

Montgomery said multiple agencies assisted in the search, and Alexander said the murder investigation team included his office, the Arkansas State Police and the Bull Shoals Police Department.

The Arkansas Department of Public Safety released information April 21 indicating the shooting happened at about 6:30 a.m. that day, and the victim was Anita S. Due, 48, found inside her vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.

She was reportedly transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mtn. Home, Ark., where she died of her injuries.

After the suspect’s vehicle had been found, gunshots were heard by officers tracking him and Due was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety.
