To the publisher:
Thank you for your request in the Sept. 14 issue of the Gazette for input on publishing frequency for the Quill/Gazette.
I have subscribed to the Quill for about 20 years now. When it became biweekly about two years ago, I almost canceled my subscription, since I thought that I was likely missing several days' worth of news each week. Apparently, there is an online version for the MISSING days, but even though I spent about 75% of my workday on a computer before I recently retired, I could not figure out how to navigate your system. Certainly, when the change occurred, it was mentioned that one could also come to the Quill office for instructions on how to get the online version, but I chose not to, since your parking SUCKS, I have health issues making it very difficult to ambulate more than a short distance, and also, my Significant Other also reads your paper, so she would have to go through this too! Also, I WANT TO HOLD A NEWSPAPER, not try to read small print on my cell phone.
When my last renewal came up, again, I considered canceling my subscription, but I am hanging on to see if things get better. While the Gazette has some interesting articles, it is still not the news.
You suggested in your Sept. 14 Gazette column increasing the number of subscriptions could increase the frequency of publication without raising cost … I hope you are right, but I doubt this will happen! So many people get their news now on computer, cell phone, etc. And of course, Facebook!.......not validated usually but they go by it!
I would suggest, if needed:
1. Raising cost, if needed.
2. Coupons exclusive to the Quill! This, of course would require local businesses to participate, but give people a reason to subscribe besides reading the news. These would need to be GOOD coupons, such as BOGO. Free small fry with purchase of a big burger and drink just will not draw the masses!
