West Plains Bike Group members announce plans for new bicycle route in West Plains

Posted

Members of West Plains Bike Group on Wednesday announced that city officials have endorsed the group’s proposal for a third bicycle route in West Plains.

According to the group, the new bicycle route will be named the “Galloway Loop.”

It will connect riders to the beautiful park located on the north edge of city limits, with an opportunity to ride in a more country-like setting.

Starting from the city’s central loop at West Second Street, bicyclists will have the option to either ride out and back to the park for 5.2 miles or continue north from Galloway and loop back towards town on Holiday Lane and return to the starting point at West Second Street for 6.5 miles.

“More experienced riders will be challenged to bicycle up Girdley Street from the Ford dealership to Old Airport Road. If bicyclists choose to do both the Central Loop and the Galloway Loop, that will be over an 11-mile ride,” according to the West Plains Bike Group.

For either option, Galloway Park will always be a safe and enjoyable resting stop for snacks or a picnic lunch, according to members.

Members said plans are underway to install the first-ever Bicycle Repair Station or Bicycle Kiosk in West Plains along the new route.
