Posted

A 78-year-old Winona woman was the victim of a fatal collision that happened at 2:40 p.m. April 22 on Highway 17, 7 miles north of Mtn. View in Texas County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Tpr. B.A. Swink, Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs, reported the woman was northbound in her 2013 Mazda and made a left turn into the path of an oncoming 2020 GMC Yukon driven by a 65-year-old woman from Summersville.

The driver of the Mazda was not wearing a seat belt, the report shows.

Texas County Coroner Brent Honeycutt pronounced her dead at 2:45 p.m. at the scene.

Minor injuries were reported for the driver of the GMC, who was taken by private vehicle to Mercy St. Francis Hospital in Mtn. View.

The death marks the 10th fatality in the nine-county Troop G area for the year, compared to three in the same time frame in 2024.

Swink was assisted at the scene by Tprs. L.J. Combs and S.A. Swink, Cpl. S.J. Crewse, Msgt. C.A. Kimes, and Cpl. T. Wright with the patrol’s Major Crash Team.

The patrol no longer identifies crash victims in its public reports, citing the possibility the information could be used to perpetrate scams against victims.
