MU law professor pushes to redefine modern contracts, advocate for consumer protections
Whether you’re subscribing to a dating app, getting a gym membership, visiting a website or purchasing a product, you’re probably entering into a consumer contract. As widely used as these agreements are, people rarely read, understand or know the content of them. Although there are some government regulations, contract law generally treats online “terms as conditions” to be binding contracts for people who agree to buy, subscribe, borrow, join or download.

The public is invited to join Willow Springs School District officials from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 for an open house of two new facilities, the Bear Training Facility and Innovation Hall. The Bear Training Facility, at 901 N. Ferguson St. next to the football practice field, is a training facility open to all athletes and students in weight training classes. Innovation Hall, at 908 Springfield Road, is a Career and Technical Education Center that houses hands-on programs such as Aviation, Bear Media, Carpentry, Criminal Justice and Engineering.

Walmart of West Plains donated to several area causes during its grand reopening celebration held Nov. 3. Among the beneficiaries was the West Plains High School choir, which gave a performance for the festivities, under the direction of Kelly Dame, front row, far right. The business presented the Zizzer choir with a check for $1,000, prompting Communications Director Lana Snodgras to express thanks on behalf of the West Plains R-7 School District. “Thank you to Walmart for the generous donation to the West Plains High School choir,” she said. “Your support hits a high note in our school.”

A West Plains woman was injured when her vehicle ran off the road at 7:25 a.m. Sunday on south U.S. 63, a half-mile south of Koshkonong in Oregon County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. more

The workshop will be designed to help attendees learn the fundamental principles of impactful grant writing, master the art of crafting targeted proposals and explore the best strategies for finding potential funding sources, said organizers. more

The funds are issued from the Partners in Education program sponsored by G & W Foods. Since beginning the program, G & W Foods has given $8,530.87 to the Willow Springs Elementary School. “G & W Foods is proud to support our young people with the Partners in Education which is based on 1% of receipts that are collected by school,” said store officials. Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club members Brooklyn Dienst, left, and Kenzie Sandgren, right, are doing a service project and seeking donations to help buy items for mental health bags to be distributed by the 37th Judicial District Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Christos House domestic violence outreach and resource service. The bags will contain journals and stress relief items, plus a copy of "Beauty Comes With A Beast: Overcoming An Eating Disorder," a book by local author and middle school teacher Korrie Jo Vance about her own struggles with mental health and recovery from an eating disorder. Donations may be made at Fitmiss Fitness, 708 Washington Ave., and will be accepted through the second week of December.
