Delta Kappa Gamma's Xi Chapter initiated four new members during its November meeting. The ceremony took place at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Mtn. View. Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization for professional women in education, and is based in Austin, Texas. Xi Chapter membership spans four area counties. The chapter aims to support the needs of local teachers, does service projects and gives scholarships, as well as providing members valuable education-related programs during its five yearly meetings.

Willow Springs School District Director of Communications Jenny Hayward demonstrates the Bear Media Productions room at Innovation Hall, part of the district's multimedia program, where students learn how to do school announcements, produce podcasts and live broadcasts, and web design and graphic design. There is also a computer lab, a video production room with a green screen, 3D printer and a large format printer to make banners, vinyl signs and perforated vinyl window coverings.
Open house showcases new uses for former MoDOT buildings in WS
New Willow Springs High School facilities and the programs housed within them were showcased at an open house held Tuesday evening, hosted by the district with tours guided by instructors and students. Uphaus named new principal of WPE starting July 1
Officials with the West Plains R-7 School District have announced Virginia Uphaus will assume the role of West Plains Elementary School principal for the 2024-2025 school year. Effective July 1, 2024, she will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of current Principal Becky Hutchinson.  more
Eslinger named new Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education
The State Board of Education announced Tuesday that 33rd District Sen. Karla Eslinger, of Wasola in Ozark County, will assume the role as the state’s next commissioner for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) effective June 1, 2024, after concluding her work in the Missouri Senate during the 2024 legislative session. more

South Fork Elementary Preschool students recently had the opportunity to meet Jill Pietroburgo, a local author and one of West Plains R-7 School District’s special education teachers. Pietroburgo shared her new book, "Sometimes Grandma Calls Me Jean," and inspired the class with gratitude for family memories and being thankful for loved ones.

West Plains Elementary principals recently served up “sweet treats for an amazing team,” doling out cups of Spring Dipper ice cream to faculty and staff, shared school district Communications Director Lana Snodgras. “Here’s the scoop: We are incredibly thankful for each of you,” she added. Walmart of West Plains donated to several area causes during its grand reopening celebration held Nov. 3. Among the beneficiaries was the West Plains High School choir, which gave a performance for the festivities, under the direction of Kelly Dame, front row, far right. The business presented the Zizzer choir with a check for $1,000, prompting Communications Director Lana Snodgras to express thanks on behalf of the West Plains R-7 School District. “Thank you to Walmart for the generous donation to the West Plains High School choir,” she said. “Your support hits a high note in our school.”

MSU-WP marks First-Generation College Celebration Day
On Nov. 8, Missouri State University-West Plains joined hundreds of colleges and universities across the nation in celebrating its “first generation” students (students who are the first in their families to attend college) as part of the National First-Generation College Celebration Day. more
Gov. Mike Parson gave remarks on Tuesday preceding the groundbreaking of a building on the Missouri State University-West Plains campus that will house the university's TJ Swift House A.S.C.E.N.D. Program. A.S.C.E.N.D. stands for Autism Support Can Empower New Directions, and is already in place at MSU-WP, offering support services for students with autism. Other speakers included MSU President Clif Smart, MSU-WP Chancellor Dennis Lancaster, Tracey Hollis of TJ Swift House and 33rd District State Sen. Karla Eslinger, who introduced Parson.
