During the week of Nov. 27, the Mtn. View Garden Club hosted its annual Swag Workshop at the Community Center. “We are extremely grateful to the 25 helpers who helped the 17 members in making over 80 of the festive 5-foot high swags,” said club member Robi Tanner of those who contributed their time to assemble evergreen decor to display around the city. “Making the swags is only a part of the process. Our thanks also go out to those who took the time to cut and deliver pickup fulls of the pine, cedar and holly branches that go into making the swags. And not to be forgotten are the dedicated members of the City Park Department who spent many hours hanging the swags throughout the city.” Next year's workshop is planned for Nov. 25 through 27. Anyone with pine or cedar branches to donate to the effort is invited to contact Tanner at 573-292-3000. “Thank you everyone, because without you, projects like this are not possible!” she added. The Mtn. View Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, the Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri and the Central Region Garden Clubs. The names of two Peace Valley-area residents that perished in a house fire Friday have been released by Howell County Coroner Tim Cherry. He identified the victims as Larry Collins, 51, and Sherry Robinson, 58. more

Maddix Moore of Mtn. View places a wreath on the grave of his great-grandfather, Virgil Colter, during the National Wreaths Across America Ceremony held Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Mtn. View. There were 187 wreaths placed by veterans' family members and volunteers, so every veteran’s grave had a wreath. The ceremony is coordinated so the wreaths are placed at the same time nationwide.

Kosh gang member sentenced to federal prison
Tanner S. Huffman, 30, Koshkonong, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips to eight years and six months in federal prison without parole for illegally possessing a firearm. According to court documents, he was a member of the Gangster Disciples and third in command locally as of 2020. more

Members of West Plains Elks Lodge 2418 recently presented a check to Dylan Tribble, of Pomona, for his Coats for Kids program. Tribble began the program in 2020, raising $6,000 to buy over 300 coats to distribute that December to elementary schools in Dora, Koshkonong and West Plains. The Elks donation of $2,021 is the largest single donation the local program has received, said a spokesperson for the Elks. House fire near Peace Valley claims two lives
A house fire that was reported at about 11:40 p.m. Thursday near Peace Valley resulted in the deaths of two people, but the cause of the blaze as been listed as undetermined by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety (DFS) because of the extent of the structure damage. more
Delta Kappa Gamma's Xi Chapter initiated four new members during its November meeting. The ceremony took place at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Mtn. View. Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization for professional women in education, and is based in Austin, Texas. Xi Chapter membership spans four area counties. The chapter aims to support the needs of local teachers, does service projects and gives scholarships, as well as providing members valuable education-related programs during its five yearly meetings.

Patrol's Troop G to gain new trooper
Col. Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces that 25 troopers will graduate from the patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy on Friday. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. in the academy gymnasium, 1510 E. Elm St., Jefferson City. The graduation ceremony will be live streamed on the patrol’s Facebook page, @motrooper. more
Willow Springs School District Director of Communications Jenny Hayward demonstrates the Bear Media Productions room at Innovation Hall, part of the district's multimedia program, where students learn how to do school announcements, produce podcasts and live broadcasts, and web design and graphic design. There is also a computer lab, a video production room with a green screen, 3D printer and a large format printer to make banners, vinyl signs and perforated vinyl window coverings.
Open house showcases new uses for former MoDOT buildings in WS
