ONGOING

Through April 25 (7:30-8 a.m. and 3-3:45 p.m. weekdays) Junior and senior girls can browse through racks of donated prom dresses in the West Plains High School commons area, try them on and choose one that fits. To donate dresses or accessories, email Sheila Sparks, sheila.sparks@zizzers.org.

Through April 30 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays) Dennis Crider Photography Exhibit, “39” Retro Photos from his days at the West Plains Daily Quill, OzSBI’s second floor, 408 Washington Ave.

Through May 4: The West Plains Council on the Arts will host an exhibition of works by 19 area artists in the gallery on the civic center mezzanine, 110 St. Louis St., viewable during regular civic center hours. Works showcased represent eclipse and skyward themes.

Through June 30 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) Angela Bullard’s artwork will be featured on the first floor of OzSBI, 408 Washington Ave., in an exhibit sponsored through a partnership between the incubator and the West Plains Council on the Arts. The show is an eclectic assortment of Bullard’s work, from needle-felted landscapes to encaustic florals to acrylic abstracts.

Through June 30 (9 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays) The West Plains Council on the Arts partners with the West Plains Public Library, 750 @ W. Broadway to bring art to the community. Photography from Marc Brannan will be on display.

TODAY

April 24: Bakersfield School will not hold Head Start or preschool classes due to early childhood screening that will be going on during school hours. Parents of children who are not enrolled and in need of screening should call 417-284-7333 to schedule an appointment. The child will need to attend, and parents should bring the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization records. Eligible children must be 4 on or before July 31 for preschool, or 5 on or before that day for kindergarten. Due to insurance policies, 4-year-olds may not ride the school bus.

April 24 (12:30-4:30 p.m.) A Red Cross Blood Drive will be held in the West Plains Civic Center exhibit hall. April 25 (5-7 p.m.) A Poetry Night fundraiser for West Plains R-7 literacy programs will be held at Wages Brewing Company, 1382 Bill Virdon Blvd. in East Towne Village Shopping Center. From 5-6 p.m., material will be PG-13; adult subjects will be allowed for the second half of the event.

April 25 (6-7 p.m.) Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona will host Nature Art: Pine Needlers. Learn simple, but beautiful embroidery techniques while exploring Missouri native trees. A virtual session will be available from 4 to 5 p.m. for those who cannot attend in person. April 26 (6:30-9:30 p.m.) and 27 (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) The annual South Central Walk Worthy Interdenominational Women’s Conference will be held at First Baptist Church, 409 U.S. 60 in Mtn. View. This year’s theme is “Infinite Grace” and speakers include Bible teachers Toni Collier, Sara Forhetz and Dawn Jackson. Teresa Arthur will be the conference host and worship will be led by weRcalled. Tickets, which include meals for Saturday, range from $20 for a single day to $40 for both days if purchased before March 31; prices increase between April 21 and 25, then again the day of the event, at the door. April 27 (noon to 3 p.m.) The Avenue Theatre will host auditions for its next musical, “Mary Poppins,” performance dates June 21-23, 25, and 27-30. Rehearsals begin May 13 and will be held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evenings. Auditions are open to youths going into seventh grade to adults up to 110. May 2 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) Ozarks Healthcare BHC and several regional health and wellness organizations, including health departments, Christos House and MSU-WP A.S.C.E.N.D., will host a Community Connections Resource Fair at Emmett Kelly Park in Houston. The fair is organized to help assist people access services and support for themselves and family members, and includes healthcare services, job and housing application assistance. All are welcome. May 2 (5 p.m.) The Missouri State University-West Plains Alumni & Friends picnic will be held in the exhibit hall of the West Plains Civic Center, 110 St. Louis St. It will begin with a drop-in social hour to celebrate MSU System President Clif Smart, retiring June 30. July 4: The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Willow Springs Police Department, will host the second annual “I Ran from the Cops” 5K and SWAT challenge ahead of the traditional Fourth of July parade. Details to be announced.

Dec. 7: The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce will host Pancakes with Santa and a slew of other Downtown Holli-Day events, concluding with a lighted Christmas parade. Details to be announced.

Dec. 10 (8-11 a.m.) Ozarks Healthcare will offer low-cost lab screenings including those for blood sugar levels, cholesterol, thyroid function, calcium levels, diabetes, prostate cancer and vitamin D levels.
