The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed new eatery Pasta Place to the city with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The restaurant, owned by Willow Springs transplant Carol Carolson, is at 308 E. Main St., across the street from O’Reilly Auto Parts. Carlson makes the food fresh from scratch, using family recipes for her sauces. The restaurant’s decor comes from her Italian family home, including the family dining table complete with the chair her father sat in every night. “Her food is authentic, her hospitality is warm and friendly, and she strives to make each patron feel like they are eating with family,” shared chamber Director Kim McCormick. The Fuel House, a coffee and pastry shop that originated in Eminence, has now opened a second location in West Plains. It is appropriately located in the former Gas Plus location, 703 Porter Wagoner Blvd. The business is drive-thru only and hours are 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends. Drink selections include coffee and espresso with a choice of regular and nondairy milks, add-in flavors and specialty cold brews, plus matcha latte, fruit smoothies, chai latte, frappes and a Red Bull Recharger or Lotus Recharger. WP Chamber welcomes two new businesses with ceremony
During the month of October, West Plains Bank and Trust Company Liberty Branch in Mtn. View, hosted a fundraiser benefitting the F.E.E.D. Program. For a minimum $1 donation, the names of donors were written on pumpkins and displayed in the bank lobby, located at 607 N. Elm St. The effort resulted in a $600 donation to the food pantry. According to Liberty Branch Universal Banker Sara Schulz, all money raised will benefit local residents served through the F.E.E.D. Program. “With the holidays coming up soon, these funds will help families celebrate with a nutritious meal,” Schulz said. “Of the total, $300 was raised by our customers and employees with West Plains Bank and Trust Company matching that number, which raised the donation to $600.” From left: Liberty Branch Mortgage Loan Officer Lindsay Holden, Jennett Haynes with the F.E.E.D Program and Schulz.

The MFA Oil Foundation, represented by Matt Warren, left, recently awarded a grant to Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter of West Plains to assist to the purchase of a Powermatic dust collector vacuum, pallet jack and Shop Vac. Volunteers meet to build the beds and deliver them. The MFA Oil Foundation provides nonprofit organizations working to improve communities where MFA Oil has a significant concentration of members and employees, said company officials. Sleep in Heavenly Peace, represented by David Ball, right, is a nonprofit organization committed to providing beds for children who need them. Since its establishment in 1998, the foundation has awarded more than $3 million in grants. MFA Oil Senior Director of Employee Engagement and Culture Tom May described the foundation as “a program that allows our company to give support back to the rural communities that are the foundation of our business.” He added the grants awarded help support many youth programs and organizations dedicated to solving community issues and improving quality of life.

OzSBI shares info about new federal reporting requirement
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has enacted new reporting requirements for both new and existing business entities, shared officials with the Ozarks Small Business Incubator: As of Jan. 1, most corporations, limited liability companies and similar entities are now required to provide information about the company, its beneficial owners and company applicants to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). This new requirement aims to combat financial crimes, including money laundering and terrorism financing through shell companies. more

Small nonfarm businesses in 16 Missouri counties and neighboring counties in Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma are now eligible to apply for low‑interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced Francisco Sánchez, Jr., associate administrator for the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the U.S. Small Business Administration. more
Komm General Store in Thayer recently hosted a group from Cedarhurst Assisted Living in West Plains, who took a trip back in time to an era when a general store was the center of small communities. The store has a covered front porch with chairs for those that want to sit a spell and enjoy an ice cream cone or soda from a glass bottle. For the visit, several community members brought out their classic cars to add to the ambience. The store stocks old-time candies and bottled sodas, staple pantry items and fresh produce, canning supplies and paper goods, and fresh baked items, and has a deli counter and soft serve ice cream. It is located about a mile west of Thayer at 6132 Highway 142. The store opened in early September, and its hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Teeny Tiny Town is now open at 919 Preacher Roe Blvd. in West Plains with nine themed play rooms and a party room available to rent. Themed rooms include a fire station and gas station, cafe, doll house, market, veterinarian clinic, construction and a classroom. The sensory-friendly room is equipped with toys that offer different textures and activities, and a "decompression" room is designed for when children need a break from the excitement. Rates are for two-hour play sessions and hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The John T. Kirk Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1828 of West Plains has donated $375 to Salutes Veterans Shelter to use for food for residents. The donation is from a Uniting to Combat Hunger & Homelessness grant. The program makes funds available to VFW posts and their auxiliaries to be given to food banks, pantries and homelessness relief programs. Salutes offers transitional housing with priority given to veterans, but also partners with Ozarks Healthcare Behavioral Health Center to provide crisis shelter. Salutes is located off of south U.S. 63 and has a thrift store, the proceeds of which also support the operation of the shelter. Piney River Brewing Company's Old Tom Porter ale won a bronze medal at this year's Great American Beer Festival competition. It is the beer's second medal at the contest since the Texas County brewery's opening in 2011.
Piney River's Old Tom Porter wins bronze in national competition
The Piney River Brewing Company, located in Bucyrus in Texas County, has been awarded a bronze medal for its Old Tom Porter at the Great American Beer Festival, held Oct. 12 in Denver. The festival is hosted by the Brewers Association and is the nation's largest professional beer competition. more
