From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the West Plains Historic Post Office, 204 E. Main St., the children of John and Patsy Holesapple would like to cordially invite family and friends in celebrating their parents’ love and 60 years of marital happiness. In lieu of presents, the couple has requested only the presence of their family friends in sharing their day with memories and love.

The Mtn. View Garden Club’s September Yard of the Month was awarded to Tom Antrim, 314 Sharp St. “The lawn in this yard is a lush carpet of zoysia grass,” described club members. “In the middle of the yard is a flowering dogwood tree that is planted in a raised bed with many perennial plants, and a concrete bench with an angel watching over everything in the yard. There are hydrangeas on the side of the house as well as rose bushes with a few blooms still hanging on. As you pass under the arbor into the back yard there is a pergola in the center of the yard. All of the paths are made of flat rocks or blocks. More hydrangeas are near the rear of the home, with woodsy herns and other plants.” Antrim’s late wife, Sandy, previously recognized several times with the award, was the gardener and keeper of the flowerbeds, but he crafted the structures and hardscape, club members added. “Pride of ownership is evident throughout the property,” they said. “Mr. Antrim is a gifted woodworker. It was a pleasure to walk around his beautiful yard and see his wood projects and rock collection.”

Landry Case Jenkins and Sienna Lee Sundeen were married July 29, 2024, at The Workshop at Findley Farms, Ozark. The groom is the soon of Morris and Janine Jenkins, Alton, and the bride is the daughter of Darin and Becky Sundeen, Lakewood, Colo. Grandparents are David and Rosemary Case, Joyce Jenkins and the late Glen Jenkins, Alton, and Gary and Sandra Turner, Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Dale and Jan Sundeen, Grand Junction, Colo. Landry and Sienna are both attending Mission University in Springfield. After a honeymoon to Breckenridge, Col., they are at home in Springfield.
Jenkins-Sundeen nuptials celebrated
Alan and Diana Heselton were married on Sept. 27, 1974, in West Plains, and will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary together. The couple has been blessed with two children, Josh and Sarah. Friends and family are invited to a drop-in celebration to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Pomona Church of Christ, 4331 N Highway in Pomona. Omission of gifts is requested.
Heseltons celebrate 50 years of marriage
Fred Merrell, who was a football coach at West Plains High School from 1965 through 1972, will be honored at a reception from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Redbud Room of the West Plains Civic Center, 110 St. Louis St. Merrell, 92, lives in Kansas City and is traveling here with his daughter. Merrell was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 and coached for a total of 46 years, 41 of which he spent as head coach at West Plains and Blue Springs. All former football players, students and community members who would like to attend are invited.

The West Plains Daily Quill congratulates staffer Travis Rhoads and his wife Leah upon welcoming their first child. Their daughter, Kennedy Leigh Rhoads, was born at 3:09 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, in West Plains. She weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20 inches long.
