On Monday night in Springfield, the West Plains Zizzers, led by head coach Mason Miller, gave fans a heart-pounding battle for fifth place against the Nixa Eagles in the Blue and Gold High School Basketball Tournament. The game was a showcase of talent, teamwork, and tenacity, with both teams leaving it all on the court in a thrilling contest. While the Zizzers ultimately fell 66-58, they demonstrated the heart and determination that define West Plains basketball.

In a showdown for the ages, the West Plains High School Lady Zizzers battled the Marshfield Bluejays in the third-place game of the prestigious Pink and White High School Girls Basketball Tournament on New Year’s Eve in Springfield. With every possession dripping with intensity and every basket fueling a roller coaster of emotions, the Lady Zizzers left it all on the hardwood under the leadership of head coach Christy Otter. Despite a valiant effort and several clutch moments, they fell just short in a nail-biting 52-51 thriller, earning a well-fought fourth-place finish.

West Plains High School is celebrating the success of one of its standout athletes as Zizzer Cross Country star Kyler Gunter has signed an official letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) in Joplin. Gunter will compete in cross country and track and field for the MSSU Lions, a member of the NCAA Division II’s Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
