The West Plains High School Lady Zizzers basketball team clinched its fourth straight district championship Tuesday night, pulling off an amazing comeback 53-40 win against the Rolla Bulldogs. In the first quarter, the Bulldogs outscored the Zizzers 19-8, and by halftime, the Zizzers trailed 29-17. When play resumed, the Zizzers came out on fire and only allowed the Bulldogs 11 points in the second half of the game. “We let them shake us up a little in the first half, and we got on our heels,” said Lady Zizzers Head Coach Scott Womack. “This group of girls never quits, and they keep finding ways to win.” The Lady Zizzers will compete in Sectionals at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar. Students who would like to ride the pep bus and attend the game should sign up by noon at the West Plains High School front office; the school is covering the cost of admission and students will only need money for concessions. The bus will live at about 2 p.m. Friday and return at about 9 p.m. For those in the community who would like to attend, tickets must be purchased at mshsaa.org. more
The Lady Zizzers Swim Team had a busy weekend of swimming. They started in Springfield on Friday night for a meet against Glendale, Kickapoo, Ozark, Nixa, Republic, and Waynesville. With excellent swims, they took down each of their opponents. For the first time in the history of Lady Zizzer Swimming (9th year in existence), they beat Glendale and Kickapoo! more
The West Plains High School Lady Zizzers basketball team brought home the championship trophy from the Fair Grove High School Girls Basketball Invitational Tournament by pulling off a 56-46 win over the Fair Grove Lady Eagles. more

The reigning state champion Lady Zizzers basketball team hunted down the Buffalo Bison in the opening round of the 42nd Annual Fair Grove Girl’s Basketball Invitational Tournament, and brought down the herd with a massive 60-19 victory. more
The reigning State Champ West Plains High School Lady Zizzers basketball team kicked their season off Monday night with a pair of wins over the Willow Springs Lady Bears. The junior varsity kicked the night off with a 55-7 win. Zoe Scharnhorst managed to put up 14 points for the Zizzers and Emily Dawson had 10. more
The West Plains High School Zizzers football team once again proved that they are the little team that could. That Zizzer team that was supposed be in a “rebuilding” year, managed to pull off a 29-14 win over the Hannibal Pirates, advancing to the state semifinals round for the first time since 1969. more

The Zizzer’s 400-yard Freestyle Relay Team proudly brought home the Zizzer’s first podium finish and All-State Medals with an 8th-place State performance.  During the preliminary round and at remarkable speed, the team broke the WPHS record with a time of 3:19.48.  Competing for the Zizzers were: Junior Dawson Fiorino (50.68 seconds), Junior Elias Curtis (50.23), Senior Isaac Kammerer (49.72), and Sophomore Avery Miller (48.85).  more
The West Plains High School Zizzers football team brought the pain to the Monett Cubs Friday night with a 35-13 win in the semifinal round of district play. Heston Miller started the game off right by running the opening kickoff 95-yards and all they way to the glory land of the end zone. It was a windy night with storms coming in and it took Chase Larsen’s PAT attempt and pushed it wide to the left. The Zizzers were up 6-0 just seconds into the game. more

The West Plains High School Men’s Zizzer Swim Team has continued with a fantastic season, smashing previous school records and ranking among the top teams in southern Missouri.  In the Ozark Conference, 8 podium finishes by the Zizzers earned Conference honors including Second-Team All-Conference: Avery Miller (200 IM, 100 Back),  Elias Curtis (100 Fly), and Isaac Kammerer (500 Free), and All-Conference Honorable Mention: Elias Curtis (200 Free), Dawson Fiorino (200 IM), Isaac Kammerer (100 Fly), and the 400 Freestyle Relay (Fiorino, Kammerer, Curtis, Miller).   Miller was first to set a new Zizzer record this season, going 2:09.01 in the 200 Individual Medley. more

The West Plains High School Zizzers football team took the field in Friday night’s homecoming game against the undefeated Lebanon Yellowjackets. Going into the game the “experts” all favored the Yellowjackets, predicting an outright blowout. The Zizzers didn’t have a chance they said, the Zizzers will never be able to climb that mountain. Did they top the mountain? No, but they came very close. The Zizzers fought very hard and finished with a 42-45 loss. more
The West Plains High School Zizzer Swim Team made history recently hosting it’s first-ever indoor home meet. The event was held at the West Plains Civic Center where the team went 3-0 in Duals and won 1st place in 9 of 11 events. This brings the Zizzer Swim Team’s dual record to 14-2 on the season. more
On Thursday evening, the West Plains High School Lady Zizzers softball team was proud to play in memory and honor of the men and women throughout our community who have battled many different types of cancer. The team chose to donate to Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Christian in St. Louis. In July 2022, Siteman Cancer Center and Washington University was named No. 10 among all cancer centers nationally, by the US News and World Report. more
The Zizzers and lady Zizzers competed in Stillwater Oklahoma in the OSU Jamboree this weekend at one of the most prestigious high school meets of the year. Quality teams from several states competed alongside the Zizzers. The boys came out 10th out of 30 plus teams and the girls finished 9th. There was some serious competition at the meet. more
With several tremendous wins, the West Plains High School Zizzers swim team invites the community to come out to cheer them on at the their first home meet to be held at the West Plains Civic Center at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. more
The West Plains High School Zizzers football team rolled up a newspaper and smacked the Rolla Bulldogs on the nose Friday night with a 28-7 win. The Zizzers perfect season record advanced to 4-0. more
