DAR calls for volunteers, sponsors to support Wreaths Across America ceremony

Posted

At 11 a.m. Dec. 16, Wreaths Across America will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1019 E. Third St. in Mtn. View, to remember and honor local veterans buried there. The cemetery has 184 veterans laid to rest.

Prior to the remembrance ceremony, which is held in cemeteries nationwide, the Ozark Spring chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, with support from volunteers and representatives of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3009 of Mtn. View, will place remembrance wreaths on as many veterans’ graves as possible, say DAR members. In remembrance and honor of their service to the country, each veteran’s name will be read aloud as the wreaths are placed.

The public is invited to participate in this first-time Wreaths Across America event in Howell County. Ozark Spring is asking for volunteers to assist with the placing of wreaths and reading of veterans’ names prior to the 11 a.m. ceremony, as well as to participate in the ceremony and sponsor a Wreath of Remembrance at $17 each. Donations may be made in any amount and combined with others to complete the purchase of a wreath.

Multiple options are available to sponsor a Remembrance Wreath: Make a check payable to Ozark Spring Chapter DAR (Ref #MO 0237) and mail to 1619 Webster St., West Plains, MO 65775. For faster processing, sponsors can log in online at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/MO0237 to pay by credit or debit card, or via Google Pay or PayPal.

For more information on sponsoring a wreath for a veteran’s grave in another cemetery, to make a special request to designate a wreath sponsorship to a specific grave at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Mtn.
