Downtown businesses invited to join fall decorating contest

Posted

The West Plains Optimist Club is introducing a Neighborly Fall Display Contest for local business owners around Court Square in West Plains.

The contest, happening through the entirety of the month of October, will be held in conjunction with the West Plains Downtown Fall Block Party, which is set for Oct. 14.

All displays must stay up from Oct. 1 through 31. They must fit a Halloween theme without gore or adult imagery. Entries must be decorations, not costumes, and must be three-dimensional. Suggested decorations include window displays, indoor or outdoor; front walkway displays; or entrance displays. Displays must be visible to anyone who is walking around during and after regular business hours.

Judging will be held during the month of October, and a People’s Choice award will also be given.

Entry categories are Whimsical, Traditional, Homemade and Most Colorful, and entries will be judged on creativity, adherence to topic, attention to detail and cleverness.

The cost to enter is $20, payable by check or cash, with all proceeds going to support Optimist programs for local children.
