Head-on crash on South 63 seriously injures one, kills another

Roy A. Martin, 55, Salem, Ark., suffered fatal injuries in a collision at 4:37 p.m. Wednesday on South U.S. 63, 4 miles south of West Plains, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Martin was driving a southbound 2004 Kenworth T800 that crossed the center line and struck oncoming 2006 Peterbilt 379 driven by Justin R. McClain, 35, of Malden in Dunklin County, reported Tpr. C.C. Battreal with Troop G of the patrol, Willow Springs.

It is not known whether either driver wore a seat belt. McClain was flown by Air Evac to Cox South Medical Center in Springfield for treatment of serious injuries.

Howell County Coroner Tim Cherry pronounced Martin dead at 4:45 p.m. at the scene.

His death is the eighth traffic fatality in the nine-county Troop G area this year, compared to 12 in the same time frame in 2023.
