Pontiac spent decades as an influential American automotive brand, from its origins in the 1920s to its demise as collateral damage of the 2008 financial crisis. Affectionately called “poncho” by aficionados, it delivered a few iconic models such as the Bonneville and the Safari wagon, and made a huge mark in the muscle car world with their family of GTO/Firebird/Trans AM sportscars. Sold by General Motors throughout North America, it was one notch above the Chevrolet label, but below Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac.
