Below are several upcoming events at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP), many of which are open to the community. Feel free to clip this calendar and keep it for your reference to make sure you don’t miss any events that might interest you. Also listed are several important dates on the university’s calendar that area residents might want to keep in mind. 

Current – Regular registration for current and readmitted students for 2024 summer session and fall semester classes. First-time freshmen should call the academic advisement center office, 417-255-7222, for orientation information. To see a schedule of classes, visit WP.MissouriState.edu/Schedule.

            May 2 – Academic Symposium, 4 p.m., West Plains Civic Center mezzanine. This year’s theme is “Astronomy in Ozark Heritage” and will feature presentations by students, academics and community members. Admission free. For more information, contact the academic affairs office at 417-255-7272.

            May 2 – Alumni and Friends Picnic hosted by the university advancement office at the West Plains Civic Center exhibit hall. Join us for an evening of fun and food celebrating our students, alumni, faculty/staff and MSU System President Clif Smart. Activities begin at 4 p.m. with the Academic Symposium on the mezzanine, followed by a social hour with President Smart at 5 p.m., and the Distinguished Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. For more information, call 417-255-7240 or email WPAdvancement@MissouriState.edu. 

            May 11 – 2024 Commencement Ceremony, 2 p.m., West Plains Civic Center arena. Everyone welcome.

            May 14 – Journagan Ranch Roundup, 5:30 p.m., at the ranch near Mountain Grove. Alumni and friends of the Springfield, West Plains and Mountain Grove campuses are invited to enjoy a barbecue dinner and scenic tours of the largest purebred Hereford herd owned by a university in the nation.             May 14 – “What Rock Buildings Say About the People of the Ozarks” presentation by artist Barbara Williams, 6 p.m., Garnett Library. Hosted by the Ozarks Heritage Research Center. For more information, call 417-255-7945 or visit WP.MissouriState.edu/Ozarks.

            May 22 – STudent Advising and Registration (STAR) Orientation for new students. Contact the academic advisement center office at 417-255-7222 for more information and to register.

            May 27 – Memorial Day. Offices closed.
