Optimists announce fall contest winners

Posted

During the month of October, several downtown West Plains businesses participated in the West Plains Optimist Club Fall Display Contest. Judges were asked to pick the top three winners based on creativity, adherence to a topic, attention to detail and cleverness.

An entry fee of $20 went toward Optimists programs for local children, and businesses donated in addition to or in lieu of participating, allowing the civic organization to raise over $300 with the event.

“The West Plains Optimist Club would like to thank everyone for their support,” said Shava Norsworthy, coordinator of the event for the club.

First place was awarded to Powell-Crews Title and Escrow, 38 Court Square; second place, Wiles Abstract & Title, 21 Court Square; and third place, TJ Swift House. People’s Choice went to the West Plains Daily Quill.

The Optimist Club is looking for sponsors to contribute toward the annual Brent Easley Memorial Christmas Basket program. The program, named for an Optimist Club member who died in November 2021, continues Easley’s initiative to assemble and provide Christmas baskets for local children. The club typically takes on around 30 children and collects food and donations to go in the baskets.
