Quilt Walk returns to the festival

Some of the most beautiful and practical items of Ozark life will once again be on display during West Plains’ signature annual event, the Old-Time Music, Ozarks Heritage Festival, organizers announce. The festival will be held Friday and Saturday, downtown. Admission to all festival events is free.

At the West Plains Civic Center, Judy Jo Protiva will again demonstrate her treadle sewing machine, which is still in use in her home. She will be available 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday and Saturday on the mezzanine inside the center.

Beautiful quilts, with their history or description, will be featured at these locations: Country At Heart, 2 Court Square; TJ Swift House, 10 Court Square; Kloz Klozet, 16 Court Square; West Plains Music Store, 18 Court Square; 10/40 Coffee Shop, 24 Court Square; Powell Crews Title & Escrow, 38 Court Square; Rustic Touch, 41 Court Square; Darlis’ Family Hair Styling, 46 Court Square; Perry's Barber Shop, 47 Court Square; Gammill's Sewing Center, 108 Washington Ave.; Ricky David Jewelers, 114 Washington Ave.; West Plains Daily Quill, 205 Washington Ave.; Decorations for Celebrations, 209 Washington Ave.; The Frame Shop, 403 Washington Ave; the mezzanine at the civic center, 110 St. Louis St.; and at the Harlin Museum, 405 Worceester St.

The Old-Time Music, Ozarks Heritage Festival seeks to celebrate, preserve, pass on and nurture an appreciation of the old-time music and folk life traditions distinctive to the Ozark Highlands. Admission to all festival events is free.

2024 festival partners include the West Plains Council on the Arts, the City of West Plains, the Ozark Heritage Welcome Center, West Plains Civic Center and Missouri State University-West Plains. Partial funding for the event is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency. Additional support has been provided by Missouri Humanities and Missouri Department of Tourism.
