The Richards School Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. today in the school boardroom for its regular monthly session.
The most recent meeting, held Aug. 17, began with a public hearing during which the annual property tax rate for the district was set at $2.75 per $100 assessed valuation. The rate was approved by a 6-0 vote with board member Gerald Smith absent from the meeting.
During the regular business portion of the meeting, from which Smith was also absent, board members approved the adoption of a Missouri School Board Policy update; adoption of the 2023-24 Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Service Plan, Special Education Compliance Plan, finalized school bus routes, substitute teacher list and Conflict of Interest notice; and the 2022-23 annual secretary of the board report.
Prior to votes, administrative reports were given by Principal Mick Price, Superintendent Dr. Melonie Bunn and Executive Administrator Jerry Premer.
The board moved into closed executive session to discuss personnel. Board members approved the hires of Shelly Dawson as an aide and Ann Jett as director over the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Grant.
With no other business, the board adjourned. Those present were President Ricky Vonallmen, Vice President Casey Whisenant, Treasurer Matt Barnes, Secretary Dr. Brian Morrison and members Ray Murphy and Jacob Deckard.
The agenda for the upcoming meeting includes administrative reports and discussion regarding a playground expansion project. The consent agenda at the top of the meeting consists of formal adoption of the meeting agenda, approval of previous minutes and payment of bills.
The board will move into closed executive session following the playground discussion to address legal and personnel matters.
Upon resuming open session, the meeting will adjourn.
