Rick Mansfield to portray Founding Father at April 6 DAR meeting

Posted

Dr. Eric “Rick” Mansfield is scheduled to portray John Dickinson, a colonial plantation owner and author of “Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania,” at the Ozark Spring, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution meeting at 1 p.m. April 6 in the American Legion Hall, 1401 Bill Virdon Blvd., West Plains.

Mansfield will be embodying Dickinson, a Founding Father. Performing in character, Mansfield will bring to the audience the prose and passion of one of two of the nation’s founders who took up arms in the American Revolution. Guests will hear of Dickinson’s strong defense of the “free mollato” Rachel Fransisco. Hear his anguished words as he voluntarily left the hallowed assembly where words he had helped draft would be read in his absence; his love of freedom not allowing his conscience to actually vote for rebellion.

Dr. Mansfield is a retired educator, volunteer preacher, syndicated columnist, author and local historian. As founder and president of the Ozark Heritage Project, he is instrumental in the removal of literally tons of debris from Missouri streams and watersheds annually, DAR members note. His weekly column, Reflections from the Road, is found in local papers across the Ozarks and can also be viewed on his Facebook profile. Rick has numerous books available on Amazon and at various local retailers. He also does first-person historical presentations to help bring history alive.

Mansfield and his wife Judy reside on a small organic farm outside Ellington.

The Ozark Spring, NSDAR meetings open with general meeting protocol and educational programs are free and open to the public. All are encouraged to attend and bring a friend. The April meeting hostesses are Holly O’Brien and Sue Evans.
