Steer weigh-in for fair set for Feb. 10

Posted

The 4-H and FFA steer weigh-in for the 2024 Heart of the Ozarks Fair will be held Feb. 10, announce officials with the University of Missouri Extension-Howell County.

The weigh-in will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. that day at the Heart of the Ozarks Fairgrounds on north U.S. 63 in West Plains. All steers will be weighed, tattooed and ear-tagged during the event.

Exhibitors wanting to enter steers in the Missouri State Fair will need to attend this weigh-in to provide steer DNA. For steers to make weight at the Heart of the Ozarks Fair, officials recommended they weigh at least 650 pounds at the initial weigh-in.

All calves must be castrated prior to the weigh-in; there will not be a vet on the premises. Youth wanting to participate in the weigh-in for the fair must be a member in good standing with the Missouri 4-H club program or a paid member in good standing with a local FFA Chapter. Each exhibitor must pay $10 at weigh-in to support the sale dinner at the fair.
