Texas Co. Sheriff says man fatally shot brother at bar in Licking

Posted

An altercation between brothers at a Texas County establishment turned deadly on Wednesday, reported the county’s sheriff, Scott Lindsey.

Lindsey stated in a press release that Texas County 911 dispatch took a call shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday regarding a shooting at Crow Creek Bar and Grill on CC Highway just off of U.S. 63 in the Licking area.

Texas County deputies responded with officers of the Licking Police Department to the scene and discovered Christopher Gordon, 58, of Beulah in northern Texas County, deceased, said Lindsey. After speaking with witnesses and reviewing camera footage, Lindsey reported, deputies determined the man had shot by his brother, James Gordon, inside the establishment.

A brief physical fight reportedly took place between the two men prior to the shooting, Lindsey added.

James Gordon was arrested at the scene and taken to the Texas County Jail.

Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens’ assistant James K. Weber on Thursday charged James M. Gordon, 62, of Beulah with second-degree murder and armed criminal action court records show. James Gordon remains incarcerated in the county jail and is held without bond; he is scheduled to appear Aug. 15 for arraignment in the courtroom of 25th Circuit Associate Judge Brad D. Eidson, the records show.

Eidson was appointed by Gov. Mike Parson in April to fill the vacancy left by retired Judge Doug Gaston.
