Posted

A Thayer woman has died as the result of a head-on collision at 12:37 p.m. Wednesday on south U.S. 63, 2 miles north of Brandsville, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Tonya Thurman, 55, was pronounced dead at 2:09 p.m. by Dr. Curtis Horstman, emergency physician at Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains.

Msgt. T.W. Meyer, with Troop G of the Patrol in Willow Springs, reported a northbound 2015 Dodge Durango driven by Rebecca C. Reed, 28, Hardy, Ark., swerved into the path of an oncoming 2014 Kia Soul driven by Charles T. Greer, 41, Thayer. Thurman was reportedly a passenger in the Kia.

It is unknown whether Greer or Thurman were wearing seat belts, and the report shows Greer suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Cox South Medical Center in Springfield.

Reed was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries; she was transported by South Howell County Ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare, Meyer reported.

Thurman’s death is the 20th traffic fatality for Troop G this year, compared to 17 at this time in 2022, according to the patrol.
