“Two incredible teams, two days of intense competition and endless dedication.”

That’s how West Plains R-7 Communications Director Lana Snodgras describes the West Plains High School FFA boys and girls trapshooting teams and their successful efforts to claim top places in a national competition this week.

The two teams have just returned from Sparta, Ill., where they competed in the AIM Grand National Youth Trapshooting Championships, held Thursday through Monday. Competitive events included skeet and sporting clays, a Youth Shootin’ Showdown, special shotgun events, doubles shooting, and an Annie Oakley challenge. Youth also had the opportunity to participate in instructional seminars and social activities.

The boys team of David Reid, Broc Barnes, Cody Jedlicka, Garrett Brigman and Jaden Brotherton took first place in the nation in the FFA division of the competition, and the girls team of Lily York, Ava Cooper, Anna Dame, Shelby Moore and Macie Doss took second in the nation in the same division.

Congratulations and kudos were issued to both teams on behalf of district officials by Snodgras, who added, “Special thanks to all the amazing parents for their unwavering support and dedication throughout the year. We couldn't have done it without you.” Pace Construction and Metalweld, team sponsors, were also given a nod of appreciation.
