West Plains R-7 School District officials announced Thursday that high school agricultural education teacher and FFA advisor Tonya Jedlicka has been named a semifinalist for the Missouri FFA Foundation’s inaugural Golden Owl Award, sponsored by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. The Golden Owl Award is intended Missouri ag educators for their significant impact on preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders. With nearly 400 nominations submitted statewide, only 18 teachers were selected as semifinalists — which district officials commented is “an amazing achievement for Mrs. Jedlicka and the West Plains FFA program.” As a semifinalist, Jedlicka advances to the next round, where seven finalists will be chosen. Finalists will each receive a $500 cash prize and an engraved plaque. Ultimately, one outstanding educator will be named Missouri Agriculture Educator of the Year at the Missouri FFA State Convention, earning a $3,000 cash prize and the distinguished Golden Owl Award trophy. The convention will be held April 23 through 25 at the Missouri Agribusiness Academy in Columbia.
